One of the best things that I suggest for reducing the sympathetic tone (“fight or flight”) and increasing the parasympathetic (“rest & digest”) nervous system is baby wearing.
When baby is getting acclimated to this new, noisy world, I have discovered this to be such a calming place for them to adapt. I have also discovered my own babies’ sleep patterns have improved when using a baby carrier with them in the first 3-4 months.
